The Lost Sheep

In Luke chapter 15 there is a parable that Jesus told about a shepherd who owned 100 sheep. When one of them goes astray and gets lost, he doesn't just ignore the lost sheep and focus on the 99 that are safe. Instead, he leaves the 99 in the open country and goes on a relentless search for the single missing sheep. When he finally finds it, he doesn't punish it. Instead, he joyfully places it on his shoulders, carries it home, and invites his friends and neighbours to celebrate with him.

After telling the parable Jesus says something interesting.

"I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent." Luke 15:7

Your Rightful Place

When you repented of sin and received Jesus you became a new creation.

"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come." 2Corinthians 5:17

"Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12

Your Relationship With God

Relationships are built and become strong through communication and time spent together. Your relationship with God is no different. As you spend time with Him, you will grow stronger in faith and deeper in understanding.

In Colossians 2:6-7 we find four important steps that we can take to build our relationship with God.

" Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving." Colossians 2 :6-7

These four steps are:

• 1. Walk in Christ Jesus
• 2. Become rooted and built up in Him
• 3. Be established in the faith
• 4. Abound in thanksgiving

Spending Time With God

It is important to spend time with God every day. Begin each day by spending just seven minutes alone with God. (As you begin to know God better, you may want to extend this time.) Start with seven minutes to cultivate the habit of getting into His presence and staying aware of his presence throughout your day.

What you'll need: Buy or borrow a modern translation of the Bible or download one for your phone or tablet such as The English Standard version, or the Good News Bible. You will also need a notebook and pen to write down what the Lord speaks into your heart each day so the devil cannot steal it from you. We suggest you start reading in the New Testament. Perhaps the Gospel of John or the Book of James. John will tell you more about Jesus and James will help you to understand more about how to live the Christian life.

Spend the seven minutes as follows:

1. The first 30 seconds: Prepare Your heart. Thank God Him the new day, thank Him for his blessings and for the eternal life He has given you. Thank Him that you have the Holy Spirit to guide you in undersanding the Bible and to help you through your day.
Ask God to reveal more of himself to you as you read his Word.

Ask yourself:

As you reflect and ask yourself these questions write down what the Lord is showing you in your notebook. Highlight a verse the Lord may quicken to you to meditate on during the day.

3. The final 90 seconds: Prayer The Bible gives us some starting points:

"First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth." 1 Timothy 2:1-4

"Truly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, 'Be taken up and thrown into the sea,' and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says will come to pass, it will be done for him.
Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.
And whenever you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses." Mark 11:23-25

Another Important Step to Take

Being a Christian is being part of a worldwide family. Ask God to lead you to meet some other Christians who can help encourage you in faith and take you along to a local Bible believing church.

Remember you are not on your own now. God is for you not against you.
